Research & Analysis Services

In addition to undertaking its own research, QRESEARCH also undertakes research commissioned by a range of non-commerical organisations.

The projects range from discrete research projects designed to inform health policy to regular analyses to inform planning and delivery of services. For example, we provide a weekly infectious diseases bulletin for the Health Protection Agency which can scale to daily in the event of a flu epidemic. Information on selected infectious diseases and vaccine uptake is now available at PCT level. We have also undertaken two strategic projects each year in collaboration with the Health Protection Agency.

We produce quarterly statistics on consultation rates in general practices for the Information Centre. This information is used by the Department of Health and Office of National Statistics and a detailed report was published in sumer 2007.

We undertook the first national stroke audit, commissioned by the National Audit Office and our report (available Online) is being used to inform the development of stroke services in England.

We undertook a wide range of analyses between 2003 and 2005 for the Department of Health in order to valdiate the QRESEARCH against existing data sources and scope its utility for health services research. Our 18 reports have now been published and contains useful background information on the database as well as analyses relating to prescribing and the quality of care for patients in general practice.

We hae recently completed analyses for the Information Centre including a study to measure the impact of the new GP contract Quality and Outcomes Framework; a large scale evaluation of care for patients with osteoporosis; a descriptive analysis of various sexually transmitted diseases and a compendium of information about allergic and respiratory diseases.

Our report to the Disability Rights Commission has informed a national review of the care of patients with severe mental illness.
