- Antidepressants are widely used medicines to help alleviate the symptoms of depression, anxiety and also chronic pain. QResearch is being used to look at their safety in some detail. - We are doing a study to find out which types of HRT are associated with thrombosis (blood clots) and which types may be the safest. For more details please see here
- QResearch is being used to compare quality of care and complications for peple with diabetes in the UK with the people who have diabetes in Bermuda. For more detail see here.
- We are looking at whether a particular group of medicines, known as anticholinergic drugs, may affect risk of dementia. For more detail see here.
- QResearch is being used to validate a risk prediction tool to identify women at high risk of thrombosis during pregnancy. For more detail see here
- QResearch is bring used by Dr Weng and colleagues to validate an algorithm to identify patients with familial hypercholesterolaemia. For more detail see here.
- Millions of women are prescribed the oral contraceptive pill worldwide. You can find out the results of our research looking at the safety of the Pill which has been associated with blood clots here.
- Novel anticoagulants are being used more often to reduce the risk of having a stroke by 'thinning the blood'. You can read about the project to look at the risks and benefits of these new medicines here.
- Dr Robson and colleagues from Queen Mary's, Edinburgh and Nottingham Universities are evaluating the NHS Health Checks Programme. You can find out more here.
- We are doing a study to look at risk of cancer in patients taking diabetes medicines. You can find out the aims of this work and how we are doing it here.

- We have developed the QRISK algorithm to predict risk of cardiovascular disease. See here.
- Dr William Brackenbury has been investigating the relationship between medicines to treat epilepsy (anticonvulsants) and cancer which has spread (metastasis). See here
